Staying Creative (Chamberfool)

It’s November, Thanksgiving is here. I’m getting myself ready to have a stressful dinner with my mother and my wife’s family. Two separate events. Double the drama!

In the midst of this ridiculous economic situation we face here, I, as I often do, find myself more than ever questioning my roll as an artist and musician within the world. But there is always some hope when your brain and your hands get to work on something dope. One of those things for me, is in a musical act called Fellow Cinder.

It’s just me and my sister, basically. My life as an emcee, which broadened into making beats, has opened more to accept other styles and avenues of music, and I have had my studio for about a year now. (Thanks to my deceased brother, R.O., who, before he died, basically got me on my feet with it. Tragically, I never got to do any work with him there, while he was alive.) My sister on the other hand, is still here. And while she is, I aim to harness her incredibly powerful, raspy, soulful vocals and attach them to my production, which has become some strange triphop demonology. Downtempo, slowed down and distorted drums. Obscure samples. Unexpected, sonitus serendipity, either completely random harmonies that I happen to find passing me by, or maybe just favor by the gods of music brought to me by my brother from beyond. Either way, its interesting stuff, and the few people who have heard the snippets I’ve worked on so far, seem to love it.

I believe that the state of music (along with any other artistic medium that sometimes translates into a platform for an artist to sustain himself with) will ride this tumultuous economy out and in the end, remain intact if not deeper for it. Instead of despairing with all the other money hungry skunks in our society, I am going to take this opportunity to remain creative and express the love for music that has a deep root in the human soul, but was born to the mother who nurtured it for years: Hip Hop.

I hope everyone else who loves Hip Hop, and any other style of music that they partake in, continues to love and continues to create. If you have any money to spare in the next year or so, till Obama can clear things up a little (fingers crossed), do set some to the side to support the time tested artist, and his craft. I myself have a couple bucks reserved for Mickey Knox and whatever creature he is raising from the depths. Lets spread the love and keep our eyes on the prize… even if the prize only costs 11.99
