The Brown Bag Journal #1 (An Introduction)
What’s up everyone, I’m J57 from the talented Brown Bag AllStars! Big shouts to the world renown Bash Bros (DJ.Concept & DJ Mickey Knox) as well as Undefined for having us!
The Brown Bag AllStars is a New York City hip hop group, comprised entirely of Fat Beats employees. We’re all from different parts of this country (Long Island, Wisconsin, Upstate NY, California, Arizona, and Queens) but we all came together to make the best music possible.
Here’s a brief breakdown of our group:
J57: Emcee/Producer
The Audible Doctor: Emcee/Producer
DJ E Holla: DJ/BBAS Mastermind/Torae’s DJ
KONCEPT: Emcee
Soul Khan: Emcee
DJ Goo: DJ/Producer
Deejay Element: DJ/Also DJ’s for J-Live
Cold Codeine: Emcee
We are currently working on the debut Brown Bag AllStars album as well as an EP. Last Fall we independently put out the first Brown Bag AllStars Mixtape(street album) made up entirely of original production from J57, The Audible Doctor, DJ Goo and Aftermath’s Denaun Porter aka Mr. Porter.
Here’s an update on what each group member is working on today:
J57: My debut instrumental album titled, Digital Society, will be released Summer ‘09 on the amazing non-hip hop label, Balanced Records. It’s instrumental in a DJ Shadow, RJD2, Flying Lotus sense.
The Audible Doctor: Will be putting out an incredible beat tape named, Crackers and a remix project titled, the Re-Mixtape this year.
DJ E Holla: Working on his debut mixtape (this will have a lot of Brown Bag exclusives of course) and working day and night on BBAS business - booking shows, etc.
KONCEPT: Is wrapping up his 2nd mixtape; Konverses 2.0. It’s mainly a remix of everything on his debut mixtape; Konverses: Chuck Taylor Editon, but with a handful of completely new songs with some great features.
Soul Khan: Is in the final stages of recording his debut mixtape, the Wrath of Khan. He’s putting this mixtape together in album form and will be nothing short of amazing.
DJ Goo: Working closely with Taurus Scott aka T.Scott at TSMG. They’re currently wrapping up the first release from their artist; Cactus Jack.
Deejay Element: When he’s not putting out classic mixtapes with DJ Ready Cee or doing cuts on BBAS tracks, Element is working on his own stuff - he will have a few dope mixtapes out later this year.
That about sums it up, folks… there’s plenty more going on than what is listed, but we don’t want to bombard you with information right now! Thanks again to the BASH BROS for having us!
Until next time, always remember to choose a brown bag when enjoying a nice, refreshing 40oz!
